Last week, St1, together with St1 Biokraft, inaugurated its first Swedish filling station for liquefied biogas (LBG) in Jönköping. The initiative is part of the company’s strategy to build a Nordic network of biogas stations for heavy transport, with the goal of having 50 stations in operation by 2028.
Investments in LBG infrastructure are increasing in line with the growing demand for renewable fuels. As an efficient and renewable fuel, LBG can significantly reduce carbon dioxide emissions from heavy transport. St1’s new station is strategically located at a central logistics hub and strengthens access to biogas for the transport sector.
The article below summarizes the development of LBG as follows:
▪️ Growing demand – more and more transport operators are investing in gas-powered vehicles
▪️ Expanding infrastructure – St1 plans to open eleven new stations over the coming year
▪️ Long-term growth – St1’s goal is to produce 6 TWh of biogas per year by 2030, equivalent to 600 million liters of diesel
The fact that more players are investing in the production and distribution of biogas is crucial to enabling a sustainable transport sector. The development within LBG shows that the transition away from fossil fuels is not only necessary, but also possible – both technically and economically.
