The Energy Agency has published statistics for liquefied biogas, LBG, in 2022. The current production reaches 156 GWh, an increase of 63 percent from 2021. The total LBG use in Sweden, including imports, is estimated at 382 GWh - an increase of a 142 percent compared to 2021.
LBG is mainly used as a fuel in heavy transport and in industry. The transport sector's use has increased sharply and now imports are needed to cover the needs. The net import of LBG therefore rose – from 64 GWh in 2021 to 226 GWh in 2022. Import countries are mainly Norway, Belgium and the Netherlands.
